In the 2014 Baileys Horse Feeds / British Equestrian Federation Futurity Scheme there were a total of 449 horses and ponies evaluated, of which 44 were entered as Sports Ponies, a decrease of just 2 ponies from 2013. Once again, pony youngstock were evaluated in the same discipline groups as horses at each venue but youngstock with at least one parent under 148cm who are not expected to exceed 148cm at maturity could be also annotated by their owner as a Sports Pony.
The results for all Sports Ponies across all venues are consolidated here. SPSS Registered ponies are shown in bold type. Premium Definitions are given here.
The top scoring ponies across all venues are listed below.
Elite Ponies |
|
In 2014, 5 ponies received Elite premiums. An Elite score is only awarded if the judges consider that the horse or pony has the potential and outlook to perform well at International level - this year, across all entrants and disciplines, only just over 14% were awarded an Elite Premium. The top scoring pony overall, the 3 year old Woodlander Wales scored 9.14 - remarkably, this was his third Elite Premium. Wales was also the highest scoring pony in 2011 as well as the SPSS In-Hand Show Champion that year. Then in 2013, Woodlander Wales was again the Futurity top scoring pony (with an Elite score of 9.3) and was Stallion Champion at the SPSS Grading.
For what's believed to be the first time, one pony stallion achieved a hat trick of Elite progeny with 3 of Rembrandt DDH's foals gaining this accolade - and two of them, Amy Cox's Pretty Picture and Kirsty Millard's KMD Dornlight were also the joint highest scoring sports pony foals. The third, Penny Walster's Bathleyhills Sea Scape is a daughter of SPSS Head Studbook graded Loveden Sea Swallow.
The other Elite scoring pony was Elizabeth Prosser's Bombay Sapphire who is by the SPSS graded Knabstrupper, Tornado af Knabstrup and he was the only one of the Elite ponies to be evaluated as an Eventer (all the others were evaluated as Dressage ponies).

Ranked list of all sports ponies:
SPSS Passported and/or Graded ponies are shown in bold type; see here for definitions of the Premiums. The 'High Score' accolade was awarded to the highest scoring horse or pony in each age group of each discipline at each venue - so where it was awarded to a pony, they had beaten all the entered horses to gain it! "Reserve High Score" was similarly awarded to the second highest horse or pony.
