All the stallions below passed assessment in 2009 and were awarded either permanent graded status or a license for 2 or 3 years. Licensed stallions have their performance and/or progeny monitored by the SPSS. Unless otherwise indicated, grading judges were Lynne Crowden and Geoff Glazzard.
At the main grading, the 2009 Stallion Champion was the delightful, Irish-bred Welsh Sec B pony Desarbre Falcon. Falcon was ridden by Ellie Archdeacon, aged 10, who has only had him for a month! He also passed his 128cm BSJA assessment. Falcon's current BSJA winnings are already close to JA status and he showed his outstanding temperament at the grading.
Reserve Champion was the 153cm 2 year old BWBS registered Dowland K.O. Bo Didley. Bred by owners Mr & Mrs Clarke, Bo Didley is by the Trakehner Holme Park Kalibre out of a Holme Grove Prokofiev Trakehner mare. |

All the mares below were graded into one of the SPSS Studbooks depending on grading score, performance record and completeness of pedigree. At the main grading, all 8 mares forward graded and the Mare Champion was the 3 year old Mademoiselle. Mademoiselle was bred by her owner, Ben St John James and is by the SPSS sire Bernwode Brokat out of the AES Jumping pony Utaura (by Aester Tsakka Dekota). Mademoiselle gained 87.12%, the highest mark ever awarded to a mare at any SPSS grading, to enter the prestigious Head Studbook. Despite her young age Mademoiselle was the only mare to be ridden where she produced a confident and mature performance ridden by one of her owner's pupils, Sadie Smith, who has produced her to date. Mademoiselle is a lovely athletic mare who is destined for a sparkling career in dressage. |
