Furzey Lodge Flash Gordon (aka "Fred") was bred by Laura Maton at the Furzey Lodge Stud of New Forest Ponies and is a quality pure bred New Forest Pony who also possesses all the attributes of a top quality sports pony. As a 2 year old, Fred was described by the Virtual Futurity judges as having a “strong frame for a sports pony” with plenty of bone. He is proving to have an easy temperament towards work and possess plenty of scope over a fence and ability on the ground. Fred will be available AI and natural to selected mares in 2022 for the first time.

Furzey Lodge Flash Gordon is a pure-bred New Forest Pony

Sire:

Burley Fiction was overall foal Champion NF Breed Show 2016, has not been shown since and is proving to be a very successful stallion producing lots of true to type quality New Forest Ponies. Burley Ficton is by the multiple champion, Wayland Cranberry. Cranberry is a multiple champion in hand, under saddle and working hunter with 25 Supreme Championships to his name. In hand include 5 times Supreme Champion at New Forest and Hampshire Show, 4 times NPS Annual Show, and 6 times Champion Stud Stallion at the annual New Forest Pony Breed Show. Cranberry qualified as a ridden at Wembley in 2000 and Olympia 4 times, and was best of breed in 2003 and 2004. He is graded by the breed society to Elementary level and Grade 2 Showjumping. Cranberry also gained working hunter champion at the breed show in 2004.

Dam:

Furzey Lodge Sienna is a successful broodmare producing several top-quality competition ponies and is by Burley Dunedin who has sired several top working hunter ponies.

Damsire:

Burley Dunedin is the sire of multiple WHP Champions including HOYS WHP winner Bisterne Diva. Burley Dunedin’s sire is the renowned and elite graded Luckington Sportaide. Sire of several Champion ponies including HOYS-qualified Furzley Accolaide and grandsire to Willoway Free Spirit; winner of HOYS M&M WHP 2021 and the Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton 2017.

Furzey Lodge Flash Gordon has been successfully shown in hand as a yearling and 2 year old with several wins to his name, including Pembrokeshire County Show 2021.

He gained great marks in his Virtual Futurity Assessment in 2021 as a 2 year old, gaining 8 for his walk and canter and was described as “A very nice sports pony type” and that he “makes a very good impression”.

Fred passed his New Forest Pony Stallion grading with ease in 2021 and was in the top 4 placing of colts entered. Although only lightly loose jumped he is showing huge scope and natural ability expected with his pedigree. He has started some light education and is proving very easy and quiet to do.

Fred completed the SPSS grading process in May 2023 when he was assessed "in person" and was accepted.

Offspring/Breeding Advice

Furzey Lodge Flash Gordon began his stud duties in 2022 by both natural and AI and his first foals were born in 2023. We are very excited about his future as our stud stallion and competition pony.

As with all New Forest Ponies, Fred has been tested clear of PSSM1.
