Redoubtable was a TB who followed a long and highly successful racing career with an equally long and successful career as a sire and show-ring winner.  As a racehorse, he had Listed Winner Career Winnings of £149,956 being a  brilliant 2-y-o and a high class 3-y-o sprinter.  As a stallion, he was graded both with the SPSS and as Elite with the SHB(GB).  He was the last son of Grey Dawn II at Stud, EBF Nominated and a rare outcross to Northern Dancer mares.

Prior to his sudden death, aged 21, in January 2012, he stood at End House Stud, and they issued the following statement:

"The Management and staff at End House Stud are devastated to announce the loss of Redoubtable.

Redoubtable has sadly written his final chapter in what was once described as a "never ending story". After an incredible 12 year career in training and 21 wins, including his record breaking win as a 14 year old, then his career change to stud and winning show horse he sadly passed away this morning, peacefully at home.

A well known and loved character in the racing world, his legacy will live on through his progeny, though none could ever replace this one of a kind stallion who had become a much loved member of the family at End House Stud."

Redoubtable was an old-fashioned type of thoroughbred stallion with excellent conformation and straight moving expressive paces, an elegant horse, short coupled, deep chested, with a good length of rein, excellent feet and a beautiful head with a very kind eye. He was an impressive stallion with a superb attitude, an excellent temperament and showed a bold, careful loose jump.  He first came to public stud in 2006 having been in training for 13 years and holds the record for the first fourteen year old to win a flat race in Great Britain since Be Hopeful in 1973.  Having run 15 times in 2005 he had lost none of his incredible will to win, and was still as unblemished as the day he was born. How many ex-racing stallions would have the temperament, soundness, conformation and quality to embark on an in-hand career at 16 years of age?

“There can be little doubt that Redoubtable was a complete one off.  For an entire to have run in more than 180 races, spanning 12 years bears the utmost testimony to his enthusiasm, his soundness and his temperament.  When the good Lord made this horse he must have thrown away the mould!”  Tom O’Ryan - Racing Post

“Redoubtable’s long and distinguished career epitomises the key ingredients required in the modern racehorse Speed, athleticism, toughness and durability.”  Simon Maplecroft - At The Races.

Redoubtable was one of my best two year olds in a vintage year.  He won the National Stakes beating Risky (My Queen Mary winner) and ran a blinder in the Middle Park Stakes (Gr. 1)”  Richard Hannon
