Sire:

Romulus’ pedigree is filled with superb bloodlines. His sire Renoir competed to Advanced-Medium/FEI level, and his offspring include European Team Gold and Silver winning dressage pony, Rembrandt DDH as well as Pretty in Black who placed 8th for Germany in Eventing at the 2015 Pony Euros. Romulus had a fantastic book of mares his first season (2013), including the Preci Spark sport horse mares The Wexford Lady and Welton Lady (dam of 4* eventer, Treason, 12th at Burghley 2016), plus top flight JA pony Hedgefield Riverdance.

Dam:

A Pinch of Pepper is a wonderful pony, beautifully put together and the epitome of an all-round sports pony. Successfully graded by the SPSS in 2011 with a foal at foot, Pepper is refined in type with a tremendously light, ground covering stride. She has done everything with enthusiasm, and is exceptionally bold. Representing her Pony Club branch in showjumping and eventing, she has numerous winnings Junior BS affiliated showjumping, and has jumped up to Foxhunters; Pepper is a superb hunting pony, covering all types of terrain with ease; also a successful pony racer, she qualified for the first ever Pony Club National Pony Racing final. In her early teens she started breeding, producing three sons. Aged 20, Pepper came out of breeding retirement to rekindle a pony club career, and has since Pony Raced, competed in both showjumping and eventing, and been to the PC Championships for Prince Phillip Cup, proving how tough and sound she still is

Prometheus’ siblings are all well-made with excellent, free movement & scope. They have gained First/Higher First Premiums at BEF Futurity evaluations as youngstock and as ridden horses are proving exceptionally competitive all-rounders. Prometheus’ older half-brother was placed 4th in Endurance at the PC Championships as a 5-year-old; while his second half-brother (by champion Connemara, Castle Comet) has made an excellent start in eventing and Working Hunter Pony classes.

Prometheus (aka Percy) started his ridden career with the SES Showjumping team and in 2017 jumped in the Senior BS 4-year-old qualifier at Hickstead, holding his own round a long and technical track and being the smallest competitor by far. His scope and attitude to his work meant he jumped up the levels efficiently and before his 5th birthday had jumped Senior Newcomers. However with his obvious bravery, trainable attitude, and fantastic paces it seemed a waste not to send him eventing.

So at the beginning of 2018 and in his 5th year he was sent to MJ Eventing where he proved to go above and beyond all expectations in his first season. Again his bravery and workman like attitude and exceptional flat work meant he quickly moved up from jumping BE90s to BE100s and by the end of the season had secured six top ten placings out of eight starts, including two seconds and a win at his second Be100 competition.

In his last four competitions of the season he achieved the best dressage scores in his arena and finished on a total of 60 foundation points. Over the winter he competed in Novice Combined Training, and is now registered with British Dressage where he will start competing in Novice and Elementary tests imminently.

his own Elite status by achieving 14th place at the 2019 Chilham Castle CCI-S 2* (ie International Novice level eventing – Novice level being the same as the Pony Euros). This is a significant achievement as Prometheus is just 6 years old and only started eventing just over 12 months earlier.

The SPSS instigated the Dancer Medal in 2007 as testimony to the achievements of the pony stallion Dancer, better known in the UK as Broomford Dancer. It is a discretionary award traditionally given annually to a worthy SPSS registered pony that has achieved excellence in either competition or breeding. The 2019 Dancer Medal was awarded to SPSS Elite graded Prometheus in recognition of his outstanding competition record in the year as, in only his second season Eventing and at just 6 years of age, he won 3 Novice Events and completed his first International, the Chiltham Castle CCI-S 2* in July. Prometheus was bred by Annabel Blake and Charles Wise and is now owned by their daughter, Katy Wise. Annabel is pictured collecting the Dancer Medal from SPSS Studbook Manager, Lucy Sheldrake, with Prometheus and his rider, Melissa Joannides, who had just impressed the crowds at the Competition Stallions Event.

We couldn’t be more proud of what this lovely homebred stallion has achieved so far, and we look forward to further progression and successes with his eventing career.

Offspring/Breeding Advice

Prometheus is the ultimate modern type of sports pony, he excels in both pure dressage and showjumping as well as eventing, he is exceptionally careful and scopey with beautiful paces and has a calm and kind temperament with a very workmanlike attitude to life.

His quality was noted throughout the BEF Futurity Series where as a foal, yearling and two year old he was awarded Higher First Premiums.

He would cross well with any type of mare horse or pony, but is particularly suited to adding lightness, scope and jumping ability to native-type mares to produce ideal sport ponies or working hunters.

His first batches of foals are now on the ground and already showing Percy’s quality and fantastic attitude to life. One foal was scored very well at the SPSS 2018 Youngstock Evaluation and was awarded an SPSS Premium.

Prometheus was awarded SPSS Elite Graded Stallion status on 1st August 2019 in recognition of his having competed at FEI International Eventing.
