As described by the SPSS grading assessors, Land Star is very definitely, ‘bred in the purple’ for show jumping.

Land Star is by DeLaRoche Stud’s Elite stallion Lauriston.  Bred by Paul Schockemohle, Lauriston was the winner of the German 6 year old jumping Championships in 1992 with the record score of 9.7 for style and scope. He was purchased by the Bolvorm Stables, Holland, for 2 million DM in 1992.  Under the name of Bolvorm’s Lauriston he continued his National and International career ridden by Jos Lansink and Ben Schroder, winning in Modena and Waterloo.

Lauriston sired 10 International horses from his first crop of foals. Amongst these were the Show Jumpers Catapult (Billy Twomey and Michael Whitaker) and Promise Me, Ian Miller’s Athens 2004 Olympic ride.  Lauriston also sired Clark Montgomery’s 4* Eventer, Universe who completed Badminton & Pau in 2013. Of note for Sports Pony breeders is the fact that Lauriston is the dam-sire of the 2007 European Individual & Team Champion Jumping pony, Jessica Mendoza’s Tixylix who won another Team Gold & Individual Bronze in 2011, Team Gold again in 2012 and Individual Silver and Tam Gold in 2015.

Lauriston's offspring do consistently well in the BEF Futurity Evaluations, and in 2010, Lauriston sired the BEF Futurity highest marked entry across all ages and disciplines, the colt foal, Classictop Lancelot, bred by Jane Townshend.

Lauriston's sire is Latus I, ½ brother to Capitol I and II and full brother to Latus II.  Lauriston’s dam Gerlinde is by the international jumper Granit (by Goldfalk) and out of the famous international mare Andorra (by Agram) she was unbeatable during her career ridden by Manfred Kloes.  Lauriston has bred 2 other approved stallions so far: Nairobi, sold to the USA, and Agrovorm’s Paddington, Jos Lansink.  During the International Stallion Show at Zwolle in Holland, Lauriston was presented with the honorary titles of ‘Elite Performance Stallion’

Lauriston is approved Oldenburg, KWPN (Elite), Hannoverian, Bayern, Selle Francais, IHB, AES.

Land Star’s dam Lara, also an Oldenburg bred by Paul Schockemohle, is by Lando out of a Quick Star (Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum) x Sandro mare.  A Selle Français, Quick Star was a successful 15.2hh International Showjumper and sire of Stella (European Team Gold 1999), Quick Study (International Showjumper) and Big Star (Individual Gold, Rio 2016 & Olympic Team Gold 2012). Equally Lara’s grand-damsire Sandro needs little introduction, being a very prolific producer across all three disciplines.

Lando won an individual Olympic Silver medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 ridden by Albert Voorn.

Land Star started his ridden education with Red Fox Equestrian where he was backed and gently introduced to competition, winning on his very first dressage outing.

In 2013, Land Star moved to be permanently based with Carian Scudamore (2009 European Junior Champion, 2010 Youth Olympic Gold medallist & 2013 British Team member at the Young Riders European Championships). He continues to demonstrate a great willingness to learn, very trainable brain & exciting athletic jump.

With Carian he participated in the BS Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) training.

In 2017, he will continue to compete and progress up the levels, whilst increasing demand means he will travel home for the stud season to fulfil his stud duties.

So exciting times ahead for Land Star - DeLaRoche Stud’s little pocket rocket!

Offspring/Breeding Advice

Land Star’s first foals have certainly impressed – with his first two books of mares representing a good cross-section, ranging from 128cm to 168cm, all with very serious international competition pedigrees or performance records, including a full sister to Irish SJ Team pony & a proven dam of international horses. The resulting foals have all inherited his good looks, possessing extremely attractive & athletic outlooks. These attributes were recognised when his 2016 filly Monarch’s Way Delight was awarded the much coveted SPSS GOLD PREMIUM.

It is anticipated that Land Star will continue to prove his worth as a very versatile stallion, crossing well with & improving a wide range of mares. He will certainly be used to breed both serious competition ponies & equally to cross with larger more ‘old fashioned’ mares to introduce quality & athleticism.
