Hilkens Gold Card possesses all the necessary attributes to be a top producer himself – proven pedigree, superb conformation, excellent brain and true beauty – some would say he has the all elusive and important look-at-me ‘wow’ factor. It will therefore come as little surprise that his movement and jump certainly do not disappoint – he is elegant yet elevated, possessing both poise and power, on the flat as well as over a fence. His temperament is superb & he passes this on too.

Hilkens Gold Card’s very impressive pedigree is littered, on both sides, with the ‘greats’ and producers in international competition pony terms – Golden Dancer, Oakley Bubbling Bobbety (renamed Valentino), Downland Folklore, Brillant (formerly Benedict of Piran), Black Boy … It really does read like a ‘who’s who’ of modern competition pony breeding. He is closely related to numerous international ponies. His maternal half-brother Hilkens Denali, formerly a licensed Weser Ems stallion, is 2019 Australian Advanced Dressage Pony Champion.

Sire: FS Golden Highlight was champion stallion at the approvals in 1999, he also gained three 10s at his performance test in Neustadt/Dosse. In 2001 he became Champion at the Federal Championship. In 2003, FS Golden Highlight won all his classes to become International Supreme Champion at the International Welsh Show in Aachen. FS Golden Highlight has some very influential ponies in his pedigree such as his Sire FS Golden Moonlight and his Grand Sires Golden Dancer and Power Boy.

Dam: StPrSt Schamila was placed fourth in her Vechta Elite Mare Show, she won her Mare Performance Test, and has produced a number of premium foals. StPrSt Schamila's Grand Sire, 'Brillant', has been described as the Grandfather of German pony breeding in Weser-Ems. He sired 35 licensed sons and 23 State Premium mares. He was the top sire of German dressage ponies for three consecutive years and within the top three sires over a period of six years.

Damsire: Black Boy is the sire of more than 20 licensed stallions and 15 State Premium Mares. He was Reserve Champion of his Performance Test in 1987 with a score of 8.1. In 1992 he was Champion stallion of the Weser-Ems Stallion Show. His sons include Branduardi M who was Champion of his licensing in 1998, Vicebundeschampion in 1999, Champion of his performance test in 2000, and sire of the 2005 Weser-Ems Stallion Licensing Champion, Hilkens Black Delight. Other sons include Barnabas, Reserve Champion Young Stallion in 1999, and Black Dancer, 2001 Stallion Show Champion.  He has sired 4 Champion Mares, including Golden Felina (full sister to Branduardi M) who was National Mare Champion in 1992 and 1996, and produced the licensed stallion and Bundeschampion Pilgrim's Red.

Hilkens Gold Card Trotting

Hilkens Gold Card was purchased in Germany by Josephine Eley (Nibeley Stud), from the world renowned Hilkens Stud, breeders of numerous top flight competition ponies.

Delaroche Stud were extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to stand him for the 2017 stud season & then purchase him in 2018. He was previously produced under-saddle for dressage but had also shown that he possesses an exceptional jump, being awarded 8.5 for this at his grading.

Offspring/Breeding Advice

In 2015, the Hilkens Gold Card sired colt foal, Delaroche Black Gold was awarded a much coveted SPSS GOLD PREMIUM, one of only 4 foals to do so in that year. This exceptional colt really impressed all the judges receiving comments such as ‘correct, well moving foal with uphill tendency & freedom in the paces’, ‘very pleasing correct foal’ and ‘very good head & neck’. Black Gold was subsequently sold as a potential FEI dressage pony & stallion prospect – dreams that he is well on the way to realising, as in 2018 Black Gold licensed as a 3yo, was crowned BEF Futurity Champion Sports Pony & has since commenced his ridden career.

Hilkens Gold Card is an excellent choice for any breeder wishing to produce ponies with international potential for any of the disciplines. His temperament, movement and jumping ability are all exceptional, matching his stunning pedigree. He will melt anyone’s heart with his beautiful head and big dark eyes.

He certainly adds quality to his offspring and would equally be a superb choice for horse mares in order to breed smaller competition horses. Gold Card offers the possibility of passing on his cream gene, which could result in a palomino, buckskin, smokey black, cremello, perlino or smokey cream foal - depending of course on the colour of the dam.
