GRADING & EVALUATION RESULTS 2020

Meeting the challenge of 2020 SPSS gradings and evaluations this year were all “virtual” events with our judges assessing videos which covered all the normal aspects of our gradings, except for loose jumping.

Stallions were presented for a prE-grading virtual “eAssessment” which allowed those accepted to cover as SPSS stallions in 2020/2021, before being presented at a full SPSS stallion grading in Autumn 2021. Overall, a total of 9 stallions successfully completed the eAssessment process and so achieved provisional SPSS graded status. These stallions are listed here.

Mares could be presented for SPSS “eGrading” in 2020 which gave successful mares permanent graded status and we are delighted that 12 mares were accepted into the studbook via this route. The 2020 Regional Champions and Reserve Champions, Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion and other mares are listed here.

Once again SPSS passported or overstamped youngstock which were evaluated through the British Breeding “Virtual Futurity” were also eligible for an SPSS Premium, based on their Futurity Evaluation score. The scores of all eligible youngstock went forward to the SPSS end of year awards and we are delighted to announce the results here.

We are very pleased to announce that the highest scoring SPSS registered equine across all the 2020 Virtual Futurity events, and so the 2020 SPSS Supreme Youngstock Champion, is the SPSS passported pony foal Redhot Rupert (pictured on left). Bred by his owner Lauren Scarratt, Rupert is out of her SPSS Head Studbook graded mare LVS Russelville. With his sire being a proven dressage pony who has much success including winning the British Dressage 4 year old Dressage Pony Championship in 2017; his damsire having been on the British Showjumping Team at the 2008 Olympic Games, the 2006 World Equestrian Games and many Nations Cups; and the Futurity Judges commenting that he was “a really charming foal with lovely conformation and a super walk – a great prospect as a sports pony”, Rupert is an exciting prosect for the future.

The Reserve Supreme Youngstock Champion title goes to Carrie Passmore's homebred filly foal Demi. Again, this foal has 2 SPSS graded parents, being out of Carrie’s homebred Susie Shuttle, who, as another daughter of Broomwich Cassandra (Cassander x unknown), is half-sister to the Gold medal winning Para-dressage mare, Midnight (also bred by Carrie). The judges said that Demi was “a very promising foal with beautiful type matched by three very good, active gaits”.
