Glencarrig Dolphin (known as "Dougal") proved his exceptional ability with an outstanding first competitive Eventing season in 2014 when only a 4 year old, culminating in a top ten placing in the very competitive British Eventing 4 year old Championships at Osberton.

Due to his stud duties he was only lightly competed in 2015 but again proved what an exceptional pony he is when winning at BE100 level. In 2016 he had 40 mares but still managed to have a very successful competition season, again winning at BE100 level and being placed in his first BE Novice.

In 2017, eventing will be fitted round his busy stud duties and Nicola's 10 year old daughter is hoping to start competing him as she has her eyes firmly set on him as her future FEI Event pony.  He will also attend the prestigious, invitation only Badminton Horse Trials Stallion Parade in May.

He has been a real pleasure to produce and compete and does everything with a smile on his face.

Dougal was bred in Ireland by the Curran family. His bloodlines include many of Ireland’s most famous Connemara performance stallions that have produced many top class international ponies for all disciplines.

Sire:

Coosheen Stormboy is a grandson of the world famous Ashfield Bobby Sparrow who won individual gold at the Pony European Show Jumping Championships and has sired many international jumping ponies. Coosheen Stormboy's most recent successful offspring is Laburnum Ineer who represented Ireland at the 2014 European Pony Eventing Championships jumping double clear, finishing in 19th place. He also won the CNCP** at Kilguilkey and was 5th in the CCIP* at Tattersalls. Ineer's damsire is also Dougal's grandsire.

Dam:

Mountross Colleen was a prolific winner in hand and her offspring have inherited her looks and movement.

Damsire:

Coral Star is by the Grade A jumping pony Cuchulainn, winner of the stallion class at Clifden. He also goes back to the Sparrow lines as well as having the renowned Abbeyleix Owen in his breeding

Dougal started his Competitive career in 2014 winning his first two dressage competitions. He then won a Qualifier for the Vale View Arena Eventing Championships and followed this up by qualifying for the highly competitive British Eventing 4 year old Championships at Osberton where he finished in =10th place, the only pony in the class.

At the 2014 BCPS Performance Event he won both the Open Intermediate Combined Training and One Day Event.

At his grading they commented on his “very correct way of going”, his “good rideability , willingness and rhythm”.

In 2015 he came straight out at BE100 level finishing 5th at Breckenbrough, this was followed by a 2nd at Shelford and he then went on to win at Buckminster.

He had a quick foray into the world of showing being placed in the M & M Working Hunter HOYS Qualifier at Lincolnshire Show. To be fair to him, he looked more like a Sports pony than a Native due to lack of hair and weight but few could match his super clear round.

Once again he shone at the Connemara Performance Day winning the Open Dressage, Show Jumping, Combined Training and One Day Event.

2016 again saw him winning at BE100 level and winning all the Open classes at the BCPS Performance Event. He was also placed in his first BE Novice and qualified for the BE Arena Eventing Championship at Blenheim where he finished 5th and also the Eventer Trial Finals at Osberton finishing 2nd.

Offspring/Breeding Advice

Dougal is a very versatile stallion and is ideal to cross with any type of mare. He is bred to jump and this together with his amazing temperament should produce exciting children’s competition ponies as well as Eventers for the more serious competitors, when used on larger mares.

Dougal has been tested as Negative for HWSD and is also Negative for the creme gene. He is homozygous black so will not produce chestnut foals.

In 2015 he had 20 mares getting all bar one in foal. The Browne's first foal by him, Dingle Dolphin, had an amazing season having been unbeaten in Foal classes and winning two Overall Championships including at the British Eventing Young Horse Championships at Osberton.

He had three foals in 2014, two of which were out of Advanced Event mares and they have certainly inherited his temperament.

He has tested negative for Hoof Wall Separation Disease (HWSD) so cannot pass this on.
