This lovely young stallion sadly died in January 2012 from complications after a colic operation.  His owners do have frozen semen so he is available for the 2012 stud semen - click here to find out more.

His owners and connections put out the following tributes after his death:

"A message from Celia, Jean and Richard: It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing, following complications arising from a colic operation, of our beautiful golden boy Fourwinds Gethin (Rin) earlier this week. Famed for his superb temperament and outstanding attitude by everyone from the smallest child to the top professional, he was lovingly looked after by Kerensa and her team at Trevoulter Barton Stud from 3 years old and we cannot thank them enough for all they have done for him in that time. Like us they are devastated by his loss, but at least can take comfort in the fact that the reasons for his colic lie way back in his youth before any of us knew him. Rin was a super boy who never put a hoof wrong in his life and we are still all stunned by this tragic turn of events. We would ask you all to respect our privacy at this time - and that of Kerensa and her colleagues who are heartbroken by his loss. Our one consolation is that he left us a legacy not only of lovely memories but also of a number of straws of frozen semen, so his outstanding genes and character still remain available to British breeding. Gallop on Rin, we know we will see you at the Rainbow Bridge."

And from the team at Trevoulter Barton Stud:

"We are all devastated by the sudden loss of a superb young stallion, Fourwinds Gethin (Rin) and convey our deepest heartfelt sympathies to Celia, Jean and Richard, who have become our dearest friends over the years.  Rin was a charming, talented, well mannered member of the TBS stallions. As a Graded SPSS stallion, licensed Welsh Section D, with many Wins and Qualifiers under his saddle for a young stallion with young riders combining stud duties, shows a real credit to his temperament which is second to none.  Qualifying for the Dressage Winter league Finals at David Broomes and NPS finals at Addington in his first outing of the year!  Rin leaves a great emptiness in our hearts as he joins the ultimate herd. Xxxxxx"

Fourwinds Gethin’s breeding combined the best of Welsh Section C breeding with a proven ability to produce top class performance ponies, he was closely related to the winners of over 40 individual championships at The Royal Welsh Show in the past 30 years.  He was also almost completely free of Derwen and Brenin bloodlines so he is an excellent outcross for mares from these lines.

Sire:

Abbeylodge Lucky Lad is from the sire line of Synod William, sire of Synod Magnus the British Breeding/Ponies UK Top British-bred Dressage Pony 2007). Leyeswick Flyer is also a proven source of outstanding movement in many Sections Cs, Ds and part-breds. The jumping pony Lucky Lucy is also from this line.

Dam:

Newhouse Cadwen has bred 6 foals so far including 2 palominos, a cremello and a dun. Her dam Menai Cadwena is by the legendary Menai Fury (Champion 1976) who sired Synod William (see above) who was Champion at the Royal Welsh in 1971, 72, 80, 81. Menai Fury is one of the outstanding pony sires of the Twentieth Century

Damsire:

Deytheur Brenin Ap Lyn is by Lyn Cwmcoed (Champion at the Royal Welsh 1966, 67, 68, 69, 70, 72, 73. 74) who features in the pedigree of Sakama Chezin, the British Breeding/Ponies UK Top British-bred Showjumping Pony of 2006

Performance

Fourwinds Gethin was backed in the autumn of 2009 and showed natural balance, super temperament, great rideability and a love of jumping under saddle from the very beginning. Ridden by a novice junior rider he qualified for both Trailblazers Combined Training and the NPS Dressage Championships first time out and was highly been placed in showjumping in every class so far, even during the covering season.

Many of his close relatives have been exported to Sweden, France, The Netherlands and the USA as foundation breeding stock and his semen is already in demand abroad.

Just before he died in 2012, Rin qualified for both the NPS and David Broome Dressage Championships.

Offspring/Breeding Advice

2009 was Fourwinds Gethin's first season at stud and his first crop included the stunning palomino filly Trevoulter Blonde Ambition, who was the highest scoring event foal overall at The Grange BEF Futurity, above many top class foals by established eventing sires.

Being almost completely free of Derwen and Brenin bloodlines, he was an excellent outcross for mares from these lines. He also carried the highly desirable crème gene essential for palomino breeding.
