Deufor Spellbound, known as “Albert” at home is a rare combination of very old welsh performance blood lines. Albert’s breeding speaks for itself, he is line bred many times on both sides to Llanarth Braint, old fashioned, rare & sought after performance lines, his breeding boasts many very well known successful palomino studs: Janton, Dwyfor, Yswain & Taraco.
Sire: Yswain Demetrius, bred by Yswain Stud who specialise in breeding performance cobs that have been successful in ridden showing, in hand and all disciplines.
Dam: Taraco Sapphire is a versatile mare that breed superstar stallions and is also a super ridden Cob, teaching young inexperienced children to ride, still attending PC rallies & camps, she is both beautiful, kind and talented & has passed her super temperament to Albert. Her first foal, bred by the renowned Dwyfor Stud, stands at stud in Sweden.
Damsire: As a young cob, Janton Dictator represented the UK overseas as the wheeler of a team of palomino driving cobs. He also drove singles & pairs and had a very successful ridden showing career in Scotland winning many WPCS medals as well as representing the WPCS on their Scottish display team. He then went on to have a successful dressage career teaching novice riders how to compete. He has bred some very successful performance stock. |
Performance | |
Albert’s character speaks for itself. He has an outstanding temperament both on the ground and when ridden, and has been out hunting this year - with a field of over 100 horses on Boxing Day - where he behaved impeccably throughout the day. Albert is careful over a jump, has shown plenty of scope and has particularly enjoyed his hunting this year, proving bold and brave and willing to tackle hedges that he can barely see over! Kind, Willing and Loyal - always wanting to please.
Albert has exceptionally correct paces, a trainable attitude and has been produced slowly, working at elementary/medium at home. Judges love him! He is a pleasure to take out competing both on his own or in company (and travels happily with mares) - proving sensible and never silly. He loves a competition environment and certainly knows when he needs to get the job done! Rarely out of the placings when competing at affiliated/unaffiliated dressage, winning his first BE event in 2018 at Berriwood.
The 2018 SPSS Stallion Grading Reserve Supreme Champion, his mark was a super impressive 81.33% with comments of ‘super type who works well with his rider, good overall confirmation, good ground cover and very pleasing and adjustable’.
Despite the 2020 COVID pandemic reducing competition opportunities, Albert gained 18 BD points over just 2 outings (2 Novice tests each time), winning one with 73.75% and placing 3rd in the others. |

Offspring/Breeding Advice | |
A rare combination of very old welsh performance blood lines, combined with a superb trainable temperament and attitude, a talent in all spheres excelling at flatwork and bravery over both coloured and natural jumps, added to that DNA tested to guarantee to produce dilute colouring in his offspring dependant on dams colouring, Albert truly has the ‘WOW’ factor and is truly spellbinding to watch in action, he would be superb to add all the above and substance to any pony breeding mares, bringing toughness, calmness and quality to their offspring. |
