Barrowby Thunder Rebel is a pure-bred Connemara with a fantastic performance pedigree.

Sire:

Kippure Lancelot was primarily a ‘show’ Connemara up until 2015, his career being extremely successful & culminating in standing Reserve Champion Connemara Stallion at Royal Dublin Show. Following his move to England, his excellent jumping ability has been recognised and developed and is now the focus of his career. He has won many Working Hunter titles, had wins in dressage and impressive placings eventing.

He is consistently jumping double clears with a child, working his way up through the ranks gaining a remarkable amount of points in a short space of time. In 2016, at his first home international competition he was 2nd/64, 6th/54 and qualified for the Novice Championship Final out of 85 starters. He was 2016 SPSS Stallion Grading Champion for England and Wales and Reserve Supreme Champion stallion overall.

Kippure Lancelot's sire: Frederiksminde Hazy Merlin is a Danish imported Class 1 Connemara stallion. His Sire, Hazy Dawn and dam, Oxenholm Movie Star, together have bred 3 Class 1 stallions and 9 Class 1 mares who are significantly representing the true traditional Connemara pony. Hazy Dawn was the first pony to ever get the mark 10/10 for type at inspections and, in addition to his mating with Merlin’s dam, Hazy Dawn has sired a further 9 approved Stallions.

Dam:

His dam, Cill Bhird Judy, is a show winner herself in the UK and dam of many performance offspring including the successful Mountain & Moorland show pony Stonepark Lad, In hand county show pony Killaspic Bhrid and another SPSS graded stallion, Barrowby Lord Darcy.  She was awarded a Broodmare Diploma by the BEF in 2017 and is out of a mare by the performance sire Ormond Oliver who has had offspring on European Pony teams and is grandsire of top European eventing team pony Trewithian Bracken.

Damsire:

Woodbrook Cognac, a son of The Fugitive, who is a Clifden winner and a prolific producer of performance ponies in Ireland.

Performance

At his SPSS grading in Sep 2019

Jumping in Sept 2020 (as a 4 year old)

Rebel was graded by the SPSS in 2019 and the gained the very good score of 18/20 for his temperament with the he judges' saying "Good temperament and handle-ability".

A very exciting prospect for the future, Rebel has been brought on slowly. 2020 would have been the year to get him out competing as a 4 year old but due to Covid-19 this was delayed so he started competing in 2021.

In May 2021 he did his first 80 ODE. A fab dressage of 29.5 was followed by a super clear SJ. Then onto XC where he was just a little confused by the boat before the second water but jumped it on the second attempt when he understood the question.  Then in June he was third with a double clear at 80cms eventing.

Rebel is looking forward to some winter 21/22 training shows and planning his eventing for the upcoming season.

Offspring/Breeding Advice

This pure-bred Connemara has a fantastic performance pedigree and correct conformation combined with an amazing temperament. He would be a super choice for pure-bred Connemara mares, add an element of pony brain to larger mares or produce athletic ponies with fabulous temperament to pony mares.

He has tested negative as a carrier of Hoof Wall Separation Disease (a condition present within the Connemara breed).

Rebel was available for the first time to a limited number of mares in 2021 and we are all very excited to see his first foals in 2022.
